The early 20th century gave rise to the title “society palmist,” which was initially bestowed to the Irish astrologer Chiero. He became so successful in his practice that he gained the support of historic and literary figures such as Mark Twain, Mata Hari, Oscar Wilde, and Thomas Edison.
